About Danielle Marks Design & Illustration

Danielle Marks’s art studio is located near Lake Anna, in Central Virginia. There she lives with her husband and three dogs.

Before becoming a graphic artist and illustrator, Danielle tested the waters in several different creative disciplines such as writing, photography, drawing and painting, and printmaking. It wasn’t until she decided to pursue a college degree in 1991 that she discovered how much she loved graphic design and illustration and working with computer graphics programs. In 1997, Danielle earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts/Graphic Design from East Carolina University (Greenville, NC).

Danielle’s choice to focus on illustrating travel and nautical themes stems from another one of her passions: boating and sailing. She has been ‘on the water’ for most of her life, which includes a four-year tour of duty as a heavy-weather lifeboat coxswain in the U.S. Coast Guard. She is also married to a retired ‘Coastie’ whose twenty+ years of service kept her living in some of the finest waterfront property that Uncle Sam has to offer! It is because of this experience that she feels especially enabled to undertake projects that are marine in nature.

Although Danielle likes to specialize in map and nautical illustration, she also enjoys the challenge of taking on projects that lead her in new directions. Indeed, it is because of following new directions that she finds herself where she is today.
